CMAD # 270

CMAD # 223

Shawn Weiler, of Kitchener, Ontario, performed a rather unique comparison build on the Aircraft Resource Centre forum of the three most popular 1:72 scale Hornets: Academy, Hasegawa and Fujimi.

Shown at the top is the Academy kit that Shawn finished off with CMAD set # 270 for the AETE testing for the Canadian Hornet fleet modernization program. The Academy kit was the all-around winner of the best 1:72 scale Hornet kit.

The second photo shows the Fujimi kit finished off with CMAD set # 223 for the 409 Sqn reactivation in 2006. Interestingly, this particular Hornet is the only aircraft ever to have been ejected from twice. It was rebuilt both times and continues to serve. The Fujimi kit finished in last place mostly due to price, the shape of the nose, and the wing tanks.

Needless to say, the Hasegawa kit finished in second place.

An excellent job Shawn, and the comparison thread will become a valuable resource! We're going to have to start calling you "Hornet" instead of "Phantom"!

CMAD # 369

These menacing looking CF-18's were built by Trevor McTavish of Airdrie, Alberta. Trevor used two of the Hasegawa "Egg Scale" F/A-18 kits and finished them off with CMAD set # 369, choosing markings for 410 Sqn and 425 Sqn.

Awesome job, Trevor!

CMAD # 343

From Sean Martin of Ottawa, Ontario is this 1:48 scale Tamiya P-51 Mustang finished in the 1945 markings of 421 Sqn by using CanMilAir set # 343. This Mustang is also a flying heritage at Vintage Wings of Canada.

Awesome, Sean!

CMAD # 240

Another completed build by Sean Martin of Ottawa, Ontario, is this 1:48 scale FAA Tarpon of 825 Sqn HMS Nabob in 1944 built up from the Italeri kit. Sean used the Eduard photoetch update and flap sets as well as Cutting Edge seats and CanMilAir set # 343.

Another fine looking build, Sean!

CMAD # 075

This highly accurate 1:144 scale Avro CF-105 Arrow Mk. II was hand crafted in balsa wood by Cal Faber of Victoria, British Columbia. Cal used enamel paints and CanMilAir set # 075 to finish it off.

Very nice work, Cal!

CMAD # 003

Al Petrie of Victoria, British Columbia sent in photos of his finished 434 Sqn Sabre and posted the following description over on ARC:

"The hobby shop where I work had the 1/18 scale 21st Century F-86 Sabre in "The Huff" markings, but the gun bay door was missing. Considering that the Huff dragon passed over the door, a large part of the artwork wasn't there any more. I figured it was a lost cause to ever sell, even at a reduced price, so I bought it myself and repainted it in a RCAF scheme. I got the 434 Squadron markings from CanMilAir decals (wow, he was fast to get them to me, double plus kudos!). I used Model Master Paints overall, with Tamiya spray cans for the drop tanks."

Phantom was right Al, this just doesn't fit somehow . . .  LOL . . . . but a great job none the less!
I love the pilots in these kits.

CMAD # 007

Another submission from Cal Faber from Victoria, British Columbia. This one is a 1:144 scale RCN Sea Fury FB.11 finished with CanMilAir set # 007.

CMAD # 238

This Agusta Westland CH-149 Cormorant was sent in by Nat Dewell from Newmarket, Ontario. Nat  added a rescue hoist, the UHF antennae and the second wheel on the main gear to the Italeri 1:72 kit.. It was finished with Model Master Paints and CanMilAir set # 238.

Beautiful job, Nat!  Well done!

Very nicely done, John!
