CanMilAir set # 069

Al Sauer from Seattle, Washington, sent in this CF-188 Hornet from 425 Sqn in 2004 East Coast Demo markings (CMAD # 069). Allan included the following comments:

"I used the Revell Germany 1:144 F/A-18C Hornet. Tamiya Light Ghost Grey (bottom) and Haze Grey (top) were used for the main painting. While a nice airbrush would be ideal I painted the tail using Ford Engine Blue and blending with thinner.

Thanks for making such wonderful schemes available! Now to get started on the 2007 Demo Hornet."

Nice work, Al!! The Revell Germany Hornet really builds up nice

Custom markings

Terry Patrick of Huntingdon, England, sent this photo showing the merging of Terry's incredible scratch-building skills and some custom CanMilAir decals. Terry is a master for those of us who build 1:144 scale aircraft.

"Shown in the photo are two wooden scratch-built 1:144 scale early airliners. The one on the left is the Short Calcutta, which was used by Imperial Airways to service the Middle East part of the route from England to India in the late 1920s early 1930s.

The one on the right is the Supermarine Sea Eagle it flew a regular service between Southampton and the Channel Islands in the early 1920s."

The Calcutta was noteworthy for being the first stressed skin, metal-hulled flying boat. It was equipped with three Bristol Jupiter engines mounted between the wings. The two pilots flew the plane from an open cockpit while the radio operator shared the main cabin with the 15 passengers.

Supermarine designed and built three amphibian flying-boats of biplane configuration called Sea Eagles. Each was powered by a 360 hp Rolls-Royce Eagle IX engine in pusher configuration, operated by a crew of two, and had an enclosed cabin for six passengers. The Southampton-Guernsey route, inaugurated on 25th September 1923, was the first British scheduled passenger air service by flying-boat, and one of the three Sea Eagles survived in operation on this route until late 1928.

For an article written by Terry, describing this Sea Eagle build, visit the Seawings site.

CMAD # 156

Brandon Bourdon from Lancaster, Ontario sent in this photo of his diorama featuring the 1:72 scale Italeri CC-130H(T) Hercules from 435 Sqn. . Also in his  display are three 1:72 scale Canadian armoured vehicles. Shown on the apron beside the Herc are a M-113 and Husky, while inside the Hercules is a Grizzly.

Brandon finished his Hercules with Model Master Panzer Grey as it was the closest match available to him locally and used CanMilAir set # 156.

Very nice work, Brandon! The vehicles and figures really help to illustrate the size of the aircraft.

CMAD # 003, 190 and 191

CMAD # 022

CMAD # 015, 213, 214 and 264

From Dan Linton of Stouffville, Ontario comes these 1:144 beauties. The three F-86 Sabres in the top photo are all from Trumpeter kits. At the top is a natural metal 421 Sqn Sabre, in the middle is a Golden Hawks Sabre and at the bottom is a camo Sabre from 434 "Bluenose" Sqn.

The second photo shows Dan's CHSS-2 Sea King squadron for his up-coming 1:144 scale HMCS Bonaventure. All are kits are by FE Resin from the Czech Republic. The two Sea Kings without the folded rotors are sitting rather high, but this is because the rotor shafts will penetrate the Bonnie's deck and will be motorized. Four of the six have their rotors folded, while two of those also have the tail folded for storage.

The bottom photo shows Dan's 1:144 scale CF-101B Voodoo collection. All are from FE Resin and four of the five shown are finished in CanMilAir decals. Going clock-wise from the bottom right are the EF-101B "Electric Voodoo, a 425 Sqn Voodoo (using Belcher decals reduced on a copier), a 416 Sqn Voodoo in Symmetrical markings, "Lynx One" from 416 Sqn  and "Hawk One" from 409 Sqn.

An impressive collection, Dan! Can't wait to see more!!

CMAD # 234

Major Dan McWilliams (retired) of Jonquiere, Quebec, sent in this photo taken in the 425 Squadron "lounge" (aka The Cockpit) at CFB Bagotville. The CF-18 Hornet model hanging behind the pilots is a repainted 21st Century Toys kit in 1:18 scale. Dan used CanMilAir set # 234 to finish the kit as a 425 Sqn Hornet in its current FIP markings.

From left to right are: Captain Dave "Tickler" McLeod, Major (ret'd) Dan "ALF" McWilliams, Lieutenant-Colonel Alain "Data" Pelletier (CO 425 Sqn), and Major Martin "HIV" Hivon.

She looks GREAT hanging there, Dan!!     Je te plumerai !

CAF Tomcat

Another completed model by Bill Daisley from Fredericton, New Brunswick. Bill built this CF-14 as a "What If "project using decals from his spares box and left-over bits and pieces from some CanMilAir sets.
Bill added an ejection seat from a Canadair F-86 Sabre, radar nose from a CF-100 Canuck and a recon pod from a CF-104 Starfighter.  Finish is standard RCN Dark Grey over Light Grey.

Looks almost natural, doesn't it?  Nice work Bill !

CMAD # 194

This stunning 1:18 scale Golden Hawks Sabre Mk.5 was built by Tony Hayes of Dundas, Ontario. Tony started with the F-86 Sabre by 21st Century Toys in USAF markings, then wet sanded all the markings off.

He started with 2 coats of Krylon primer, 2 coats of Tamiya Silver and then 4 coats of Tamiya Gold. After applying CMAD set # 194, the Sabre received a final coat of future to seal the decals in. Tony's model is seen here sitting on the wing of the 1:1 scale version at CWHM.

Tony now has models of Golden Hawk Sabres built in 1:144, 1:72, 1:48, 1:32 and now 1:18 scale!

Beautiful job, Tony!!!

CMAD # 004

Another 1:18 scale 21st Century Toys F-86 Sabre, this one built as a CL-13 Mark 5 using CMAD set # 004 by Robert Johnson of Wilmot Station, Nova Scotia. Roberts comments:

"I used Bare-Metal Foil (Matt Aluminum) and Humbrol Day Glo with a Gloss coat overall. The foil was my first attempt with this medium and much was learned for my next project. It sure shines up nice in the sunlight! I used the 1:72 Corgi Golden Hawk for size contrast. Your product is outright awesome! and is a significant contribution to the final result."

Thank you Robert! Another fine looking Sabre for sure!

CMAD # 037

William Lawlor from Penticton, British Columbia, sent in this handsome 1:48 scale Hasagawa P-51D Mustang from CJATC. Extra detailing Bill added include a new prop, spinner, wheels, wheel covers and flaps from Ultracast; a new cockpit from Eduard and a wheel bay detail set from Airies.

Awesome job, Bill!!

CMAD # 156

Sean Dunnage from Angus, Ontario, sent in this photo of his 1:144 scale CC-130H Hercules from 435 Sqn. Sean used the diecast Corgi Hercules and repainted it with Humbrol satin Hu-164 and a semi-gloss clear overcoat with markings provided by CMAD set # 156 with a specific serial request for Herc # 130333.
Sean has made several of these Herc models recently for CF aircrew serving in Task Force Afghanistan.

Excellent work, Sean !   Thanks for sending it in.
