Beautiful 1:72 scale Canadian Armed Forces DHC CP-121 "Stoof" typical
of those seen during the late 1970s and early '80s built by Army MCpl Larry Wilson
from 400 THS at CFB Borden using
Hasegawa's S2F-1 Tracker kit and finished with CanMilAir Decal set #
057.
Well done Larry!

With Christmas only two weeks away, Philip Dykeman
of Winnipeg, Manitoba, needed help to finish a three plane diorama
consisting of two Royal Canadian Air Force 416 Sqn Sabre Mk. V's and a Silver Star as a gift for his wife's
grandfather. To finish this Silver Star, Philip
used CanMilAir Decal set # 009 with custom numbers on the Hasegawa 1:72 scale T-33
kit. Paints used on all three aircraft were a combination of Humbrol
Petroleum Blue enamel for the underside and Hobby Color acrylic Dark Sea
Gray and Dark Green for the top side camo pattern.

For this RCAF 416 "Lynx" Squadron Sabre Mk. V, Philip Dykeman used
a combination of kit decals with custom serial numbers and fuselage codes
from CanMilAir on the 1:72 scale Hobbycraft kit. All three aircraft in the
diorama were painted in European camouflage as they would have appeared
while his grandfather-in-law was stationed with 416 Sqn at Grostenquin
from late 1954 to early 1958.
A wonderful tribute to wrap up 2005, Canada's Year of the Veteran. Awesome job Philip!

Another
kit built by Army MCpl Larry Wilson is this
great looking 1:72 scale Canadian Forces DHC-6 Twin Otter by Modelcraft using Model Master
paints and CanMilAir Decal set # 072 to finish it off.
Larry
sent the following comments along with the photo:
"Your
decal set was very complete. I used Chrome Yellow
Model Master paint, however I am not too sure if that was a wise choice,
but it still looks good.
Take care, and you do great work Bill. Thanks!!"
Thank you for the kudos Larry, and yes, it certainly does look good!!
UPDATE April 30, 2006:
"Bill, FYI, the Twin Otter I did last year with your decal set won
me a Bronze finish in this years COMS (Central Ontario Model Show) held
at CFB Borden on the weekend (Sunday April 29th)."
CONGRATS,
Larry!! Pretty good finish for an Army guy, eh?

And yet another fantastic build by Army MCpl Larry Wilson from CFB Borden,
is this 1:72 scale NFTC BAe Hawk kit from Airfix. Larry used Model Master
"Blue Angels Blue" for the overall colour and finished it with
CanMilAir Decal set # 084. For his CT-155, Larry chose to include
the temporary RAF fin flash and serial used while flight testing in Britain
and during delivery to Canada.
This particular Hawk trainer first took to the air on June 11, 2004 and
was delivered to CFB Moose Jaw on August 2, 2004 where it is used at the
NATO Flying Training Centre.
Well done, Larry !

When Tony Hayes from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum at Mount
Hope, Ontario, inquired
about getting six sets of 1:72 scale Grumman Tracker decals for a museum
project to build a complete 1:72 reproduction of HMCS Bonaventure, I was
thrilled to be a part of it ! CanMilAir supplied the CWHM with six #
056 decal sets complete with additional custom serial number groupings
and extra airframe stenciling.
The six Trackers are lined up from the stern elevator to the
catapult and are in varying stages of the wings unfolding. This is an
stunning diorama that really has to be seen in person to appreciate the
amount of work that has gone into creating it.
Tony's comments:
" I started
to use Hobbycraft kits but they were terrible so I scraped those and
hunted down some Hasegawa kits. Much nicer kit in all aspects, build, fit
and detail. I use Model Masters ACRYL Medium Gray 35237 and Gunship Gray
36118 paints, no smell and they're easy to clean up."
"It
was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to our next project at the
museum. Doing this project has gotten me back in the groove for modeling.
I was in quite a slump for awhile as some of you modelers will know what
I'm talking about. Now I'm back building full swing and enjoying every
minute of it."
To say this was an awesome job, somehow just doesn't seem to be saying
enough! To see the Tony's Tracker assembly line in progress CLICK

From Shawn Weiler of Kitchener, Ontario, comes this fine
looking RCAF Mitchell Mk. II, as they appeared in the early 1960's. Shawn
used CanMilAir Decal set # 036 on the 1:48 scale Accurate Miniatures B-25B
kit and his only concern was the weak nose gear leg.
Shawn's comments: " . . . I left
off all the guns cause its Canadian, as ours were used mainly as multi
engine trainers. The AM kit comes with
brass nose weights and canopy masks which both work great. Its a hard kit
to screw up."
Great work Shawn!!

Another superb build from Shawn Weiler of
Kitchener, Ontario, is this "in-flight" Canadian Forces
Lockheed CP-140 Aurora built using the 1:72 scale Hasegawa EP-3E kit.
Everything you need for the Canadian version is in every Hawsegawa P-3
Orion boxing. Shawn painted his Aurora using Testors Model Master II 2035
for the upper FS 36173 grey and Testors Model Master 1728 for the lower FS
36375 grey. He then finished it off with CanMilAir Decal set # 002. The
stand was found in a hobby store outside of NAS Pensacola.
Excellent work, Shawn!

From Philip Steele of
Kentville Nova Scotia comes this sharp looking 1:144 scale Bombardier
Challenger CL-604 from the Revell Germany kit. Philip's comments:
"To finish my Challenger, I used a combination of kit
decals and CanMilAir set # 027. Paints are Testors Insignia White, my
home-brewed version of Red 509-102 and automotive chrome for the
aluminum areas. After application, the decals were sealed with Testors
semi-gloss acrylic. I think the overall effect is quite good.
Reflections of the decals can be seen on the wings! The various extra antennas
that are present on these aircraft were added, pitot tubes were made
from .008" guitar string and the navigation and landing lights
were re-done. The photo was taken in natural sunlight."
It is nice to finally see a 1:144 scale model here at last! Good work
Philip!

Mike Mathieu of
Orleans, Ontario sent in this photo of his 416 Sqn 1:32 scale CF-101
Voodoo made from the Combat Models vac-form kit.
Here are Mike's comments:
"The kit was the 1/32 Combat Models F-101 Voodoo vacuform
kit. At 1/32 scale, the kit is quite large in relation to the
thickness of the plastic, so I had to add lots of stringers, frames,
and spars to the interior to stiffen it up. All this interior
structure, plus the cockpit, plus the nose weight, leaves you with
quite a heavy kit, but luckily it comes with metal landing gear legs.
The surface finish and panel lines on the kit were quite rough, so I
filled them in and re-scribed my own panel lines. Nobody makes 1/32
Voodoo ejection seats, so I used 1/32 F-5E seats which are close and
easily converted. The paint finish was Testors "Canadian Voodoo
Grey", and I used a wash of "Light Ghost Grey" to
accentuate the panel lines. Decals are CanMilAir set # 015. Minor
trimming was required to the lightning stripe and walkways for them to
line up correctly with the structure on the Combat kit. I was very
pleased with the quality of the CanMilAir decals and the quick
service."
Thanks Mike. Nice work!
